concerned with slimness haves caused girls and young women to feel overweight or fat, even
if they are of normal weight. Many young women have developed abnormal eating related
behavior. Now slimness which is seen as synonymous with self-discipline and control is the
desired goal. Mitchell (1990) said that young women are expected to be attractive and
domestic in traditional feminine roles, also to be independent and to seek vocational parity
with men (p.5 and p.6). There is much evidence that suggest that there is a cultural
preoccupation with thinness in our society. We have seen this problem in history many times,
where women begin to fulfill men needs. The biggest problem that there is with anorexia is
that many of these problems some from self-esteem problem and many times these don’t
necessarily come from the media, many times these problem come from home and how the
family vies women is how they expect their children to look as well.
Women with anorexia often find them self-vomiting and taking laxatives or in many
cases just giving themselves enemas. They often begin to vomit after every meal, heading to
the bath room after their last bite and occasionally the vomiting becomes involuntary and it
becomes hard for them to stop themselves from purging after eating. They may exercise
compulsively to burn off what they have eaten and the stomach forgot to digest. Mitchell
(1990) said that anorexic women doubt about their femininity and have poor relationships,
conflict with parents, social impairment, low self-esteem and a sense of persona
ineffectiveness (p.29). Anorexia can cause many problems not just physically but mentally as
well, it can affect the women is many different aspects of her life for example a women that

for women. According to one study, women magazines have included ten times as many ads
articles promoting weight loss as men magazines. Another factor in the feminization of
disordered eating is the difference in what little girls and boys learn as they are socialized.
Men are not taught that the way their bodies look is important to the same degree women
are. This goes to show that the way that men are viewed in society is not as much as
impulse as women are, also this idea of thinness haves been modified over history for many
years and this point is harder for women to be at the point where they are accepted by
society and this is where all health issues take place.
Among adult women, the culture is fascination with young may also figure into
anorexia. Thinness is equated with young, and women who try to lose wright by purging or
starving or going on the restricted diets that can precipitate binges may do so out of fear of
getting old. Anorexia patients experience social isolation because they must isolate themselves
to binge. Many women of this age begin to feel of the pressure of staying young forever but
it haves to come down to the point where we got to realize that this is humanly impossible.
This shows generations of anorexia victims and for now we don’t seem to realize that this
idea haves been killing women for years.
Anorexia can begin innocently. A woman loses a few pounds dieting and the she gets
hooked to the point of starvation. He may feel a sense of control that keeps her from feeling
chaos. Also it keeps her mind of the problems that seem unsolvable. Some women feel
helpless stuck in a situation that they cannot change. They would rather sacrifice themselves
that make themselves happy. Food offers a form of control or as false sense of control.
We have many problem is America that affect women of every age, race, sexuality
but we just seem to ignore. Anorexia is a dangerous form of starvation and it kills many
women each year in every state. We need to relocate our values as women and bring
awareness to the issue. We been dealing with it for many years and if we do not put a stop
today, we maid have a bigger problem in the future. From a historical view it’s been an issue
that haves been not been address and many women have suffer because no one haves have
taken the time to address the issue and take action.
